Percussion
Percussion players have to be versatile and learn to play many different instruments. In grade 6, only students who take private lessons are invited to play the percussion. In grade 7, students who have demonstrated an excellent sense of pulse, excellent listening skills and outstanding music abilities are invited to play the percussion instruments. In grade 8 students will demonstrate more advanced rhythms on all the different percussion instruments in class.
Being able to hold the sticks or mallets properly is the first important skill. Students are given a set of their own drumsticks to take home and practice.
